Mikayla Elias is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to creating. Primarily, they are a typewriter poet who travels to bring literature to others. They also are a music journalist, aspiring emo/post-hardcore historian, and vocalist in their own right.

Mikayla graduated from Belmont University in 2019 with a Bachelor's in Audio Engineering Technology. They worked in studio and radio engineering, writing for themselves in the meantime.

They started their typewriter poetry practice after publishing their first poetry collection bending toward the light in 2022. What started as a way to promote the book quickly took off as its own entity. It's a practice that Mikayla finds to be equal parts spiritual and fun. 

​

Typewriter poetry inspired Mikayla to study a Master's of Creative Writing at Queen Mary, University of London. They graduated in 2024 and expanded their writing practice. Currently, they are editing a second collection of poetry.

Mikayla's award-winning work has been published in over 10 anthologies across the digital and physical world. These publications include 14 Poems, Querencia Press, and Bullshit Lit. They were selected as the winner of Waxing and Waning Lit's Subversive Edition in the poetry category.
