Mikayla Elias' Biography

I am a bit of a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to creating. Primarily, I am a typewriter poet who travels to bring literature to others. But I also am a music journalist, aspiring emo/post-hardcore historian, and a vocalist in my own right.
I graduated from Belmont University in 2019 with a Bachelor's in Audio Engineering Technology. I worked in the music industry in studios and radio stations, writing for myself in the meantime.
I started my typewriter poetry practice after self-publishing my first poetry collection bending toward the light in 2022. What started as a way to promote the book quickly took off as its own entity. It's a practice that I find to be equal parts spiritual and fun.
Typewriter poetry inspired me to study a Master's of Creative Writing at Queen Mary, University of London. I completed my degree in 2024 and started expanding my writing practice from exclusively poetry to also include nonfiction and flash fiction. Currently, I am querying my second collection of poetry.
My award-winning poetry has been published in over 10 anthologies across the digital and physical world. These publications include 14 Poems, Querencia Press, and Bullshit Lit. I was selected as the winner of Waxing and Waning Lit's Subversive Edition in the poetry category.
When I'm not writing, you can find me at the nearest karaoke bar.
